Ted Bundy's Background:
Bundy as a child with his mother
Ted Bundy was born to Louise Cowell on November 24, 1946 as Theodore Robert Cowell, but soon after his birth Louise returned with her new baby to her parents' house in Philadelphia. Until 1951 the four of them lived there together telling Ted that his grandparents were his parents and Louise was his sister because he was a bastared child, and his family wanted to escape the humiliation. Then Louise moved with Ted to Washington (with Ted still under the impression that she was his sister). In Washington Louise married Johnnie Bundy and had four more children. Ted spent many afternoons babysitting his new siblings. However, even though he took the last name Bundy, Ted rejected his new father. The only man he ever looked up to was his grandfather who lived across the country for the majority of his childhood.
In junior high Ted was bullied, but things improved in high school. He performed well in school and was generally well liked despite his socially awkward shyness. He continued to suffer from this social inadequacy in college and ended up transferring colleges because of his discomfort of being financially lower than his peers. His shyness also caused Bundy to rarely date until he met his first love, Stephanie Brooks, in college and became obsessed with her. However, she decided he did not have a real future (he had previously exaggerated his accomplishments), and so he was not husband material. She ended their relationship breaking his heart, but he continued to obsesses over her.

Elizabeth Kendall and Ted Bundy
When she broke his heart he went through an extreme period of change. The transition came with extreme depression causing him to drop out of college and become a petty thief. Then, adding to his distress, Bundy finally figured out that his "sister" was actually his mother, and his family had been lying to him all along. After this transition, Bundy developed a "false bravado", and returned to college to bachelor's degree in Psychology. The new confident Bundy began to date a girl by the pseudonym Elizabeth Kendall, and even though he was unfaithful she stayed with him. Therefore, he was able to continue dating Elizabeth while he reunited with Stephanie who was drawn back by the new Bundy.
Bundy's success with his new personality was not constricted to his romantic relationships: he also started having great success in his career. He started work on the re-election campaign of Washington's Republican Governor Dan Evans who then appointed Bundy to the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Committee. Bundy's became an assistant to Ross Davis, chairman of the Washington State Republican Party in 1973 seeming to ensure his future in a political career, and so he enrolled in Law School in Utah. However, before he moved at least three women from college campuses around Washington and Oregon went missing with a man who went by Ted. However, the first description of him and his VW was given to the police after he moved to Utah by a woman he tried to attack, but she escaped. From then on he captured and murdered many more in several different states.
